Alaskan cruising is one of the fastest growing segments of the cruising industry. The reason is Alaska's natural beauty, abundant wildlife and different cultures. In every port there are abundant activities you can participate. Here are some suggestions on things that you want to consider doing while cruising Alaska.
- Wale Watching - This is an absolute must, if you can afford it, when visiting Alaska. Although you may se some whales from the ship, in order to be guaranteed to see whales, you need to take an excursion. Price - $100 to $150 per person for a 2.5 hour trip.
- Flightseeing - There are two different types of flightseeing. The first is a glacier flightseeing in which you fly over a glacier, and if you take a helicopter, you will land on the glacier. This can be taken at several of the ports. The other type of flightseeing is the Misty Fjords flight, which is in Ketchikan. Misty Fjords was formed by glaciers gouging the landscape over the years and you generally follow the path of the waterways with the sides of the valley rising up to 3,000 feet. Price - $200 and up per person for a one to five hour trip
- Salmon fishing - If you are a fisherman, you will want to try a salmon fishing trip. And any salmon you catch you can have it vacuum-packed and shipped home for an additional price. Price - $200 for a five hour trip.
- Other less pricey excursions to consider include zip lining, railroad rides, and dog sledding. Of course there is always the option of just walking around the town and experiencing the local culture.
What ever you decide to do, don't forget to just enjoy one of the most beautiful places on earth.
